What is I-ching? I-ching (Book
of Changes) is a divination book used by the ancient Chinese Kings and princes to predict what is likely to happen in the future based on past and present data. The name of the book is made of two characters: I, meaning "change" and ching, meaning a classic, holy, book. So, I-ching
is one of the most important books of the Chinese tradition and, as such, has influenced China's culture in all its forms.
Chinese character for "change" |
The book was consulted as oracle by Confucius himself who recognized its value and added his own comments.
Chuang-tzu mentioned the book in relation with Lao-tzu. Here, I-ching is approached mainly as a divination means just because it has been used as such from
the beginnings, several thousand years ago. I-ching and Taoism I-ching is part of the Taoist tradition because it provides valuable insight through divination to Taoist disciples who learn how to accommodate the ever
changing course of life events. Online I-ching Course A few years ago, our Taoist society - Way of Perfect Emptiness - has created the first online Taoism course that includes a special part dedicated to the
study of the I-ching. This part teaches one about the content of the book and the method of consulting it as oracle. Also it deals with the art of interpreting the meaning of its symbolic answers.
The course provides examples of interpreted answers regarding questions about typical life situations such as: health, profession, love, money, politics, and more.
